In Anatolian culture, there is a beautiful term called “imece.” It means people in a neighborhood, village, or district coming together to complete a task collectively. Participation in such efforts is often voluntary, with everyone contributing as much as they can. This collective spirit creates initiatives that benefit everyone involved.
The Orhanlı Village Children’s Library in Izmir, Turkey is a perfect example of this spirit and was brought to life with this collective mindset.
Orhanlı is a village in the Seferihisar district of Izmir, Turkey. When we learned about the initiative to transform the existing library in the village hall into a space suitable for children, to create activity areas, and to encourage children to read, we at MTS Logistics decided to become a part of this solidarity effort.
At the beginning of this process, we reached out to Pınar Üzbek from the Nature Association and expressed our desire to participate in their project. Many other volunteers joined this project, initiated under her leadership.
This modern library, inaugurated on November 29th, is particularly significant as it will reach many children.
Much like our involvement in beach cleaning projects, this initiative holds special meaning for us. As a company, our support for social projects grows every year. This is part of our corporate culture. Children are our future. Children raised with environmental awareness and books are our only hope in an increasingly deteriorating world. Investing in the leaders of tomorrow, who will make the world a better place, is a key policy of our company.
Being part of a project that shares this same vision is a distinct source of pride for us.
