Going green is good for the environment, of course, but it can also be good for your company’s bottom line. Wasteful practices and equipment are probably costing your company a lot of money that a more conservation-oriented approach can save. Furthermore, you can use your company’s environmental measures for marketing purposes. Many of these tips also apply for those running their company from home, too!
1. Water-Saving Faucet Attachments
Most faucets waste a lot of water, putting out much more than is needed for washing. Install water-saving faucet attachments to aerate the water and cut your water waste in half. Your water bill will be a lot lower as a result.
2. Turn All Electrical Devices Off
Standby mode is not the same thing as “off.” It constantly uses electricity keeping the device ready for instant use, wasting money for no good reason. Make sure that your employees are not leaving company devices on standby and wasting electricity. You could save your company thousands of dollars every year by making this change.
3. Unplug All Chargers
On a similar note, chargers also use electricity whenever they are plugged in, whether they are actually recharging anything or not. Make sure that your employees unplug them when they aren’t actually using them. This, too, could greatly reduce your company’s electric bills.
4. Use Energy Efficient Bulbs
Incandescent light bulbs are terrible wasters of electricity and money because much of the electricity they consume is used to produce heat instead of light. Replace them with LED bulbs. They may cost a little more to buy, but they last twenty times longer and use 75% less electricity, so they will do a lot to lower your electric bill.
5. Turn Down Your Water Heater
Most water heaters are set somewhere between 140 and 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn yours down to 120 degrees. You’ll save electricity, reduce your company’s carbon footprint, and still have hot enough water.
6. Maintain Your Furnace and Cooling System
You may be shocked by how much energy your company’s furnace and cooling systems waste. Keep these systems scheduled for frequent maintenance, so that they are running at peak efficiency. Replace the air filters as soon as they get dirty. Have someone check for leaks by running their hands over the ductwork when the A/C or furnace is operating. If they find any leaks, seal them with aluminum tape. By keeping your heating and cooling systems well maintained, you are saving a lot less energy, greatly reducing your company’s carbon footprint, and also saving a lot of money.
Wasting less water and electricity can save your company a lot of money. It can also do a lot for the environment. Go through your company’s buildings and look for ways you can reduce waste. You’ll be glad you did.
